Planted 60ft row of Contender beans along with fordhook zuchinni, green patty pan, and yellow crookneck. Also added a pumpkin on the west end of each long drip tape.

Yeah! Got it all hooked up, and its not easy poking the barbs of the drip tape connectors into the mainline hose....I've got one busted index finger for my efforts.

Laying out tape and hooking up a drip irrigation system today. This wind is tough on transplants...think I have already lost a couple of tomatillos.

Barn hotspot just in case the goats need to check their facebook. The chickens like words with friends.

Spotted at the grocery in Sherman...I like!

Note to self for next garden. Do NOT mulch until plant is established and it needs moisture cause the mulch is harboring bugs big time.

Damage on tomato transplants. Cut worm? Pill bugs? I am pulling back mulch, planting a nail by the stem and adding diatamaeous earth around the base of the plant.

My 50/50 ratio was ruined today when I found Nora's twin boys in the goat barn today. Umbilicals were pretty dry, think they were prob born yesterday or maybe even the day before. She really didn't look like she had kidded unless you examined closely and her milk wasn't the thick, yellow colustrum you usually get at the first milking. Only one goat left to kid....no more boys please!

Still having probs with that pulsator...way too slow.

Got the nicest note from the Sherman Community Garden folks for the talk I did on intensive vegetable gardening last Tuesday night. They were a smart group and they are doing some great gardening on Maxey St. I think community gardening offers a wonderful opportunity for people to learn how to grow there own food. Check it out at www.shermancommunitygarden.org.

Getting the rest of the pole beans in today.

Late winter turnips

Wild berries in the south fence line

Baby bunnies EVERYWHERE! Doesn't bode well for the garden at all. Sammy cat found these four in the straw up next to my potato tower in a bed of fireants. Think I'll be drowning in cottontails this year.

All the goats seem to be gallon milkers, so I decided to pull out the milking machine and give my hands a rest. The pulsator has been giving me a little trouble but its still a time saver.

New baby girl continuing to improve today

Yeah - the potatoes are up in both wire potato towers. They took a while.

Got the pole bean trellis up and I today will be planting Tobacco Worm, Lazy Wife Greasy, NT Half Runner and Barnes Mountain from Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Center in Berea, Ky.

Worm castings everywhere

Gave Dr. Bing's antibiotic to little girl born yesterday. She has been weak and floppy and has had diarrea.

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Planted Ed's Caspian Pink today as well as Rutgers and Crnkovik

Climbing Pinkie

Clematis

Reused the walmart shadecloth from last fall's garden as a windbreak on the south side to protect tomato and pepper transplants.

Paul lambar feeding

.

Maddy with goat kids

Jessie holding 3 kids

Goat noogies

Not my hair!!

Helped Jessie put in her own vegetable bed today. She is planting strawberries, cucumbers and green beans.

Cilantro anyone?

Paul graciously pounded in posts for my tomato panels. I've got two 60 ft rows and I'm planning to put in about 60 tomatoes...hopefully before this weekend's rain.

When getting out of the car today I spotted the grey barn tabby Maverick running in the treeline with something sizeable in his mouth. Seems to Maverick that baby bunnies fall into the rodent category. This little guy had a good size scrape on one size which I treated with peroxide and ointment. He will be let free soo do he can come back and raid the garden.

Visited the Sherman Community Garden today to prepare for next week's talk.
